The field of research known as ergonomics depends on significantly enhancing human interactions with design, locations, and goods by acquiring information about an individual's capacities and constraints and using the resulting information. As an industrial design student, my ultimate goal in the design industry is to come up with creative and useful design concepts that are beneficial to users. I feel motivated when I think that my efforts will contribute to helping someone live a little bit easier and happier. This is also the reason I designed this project, which aims to serve its target market while being both functional and innovative.

Rheumatoid arthritis is a systemic inflammatory disease with a particular predilection for causing pain, deformity, and functional limitations affecting the hands. Simple tasks such as gripping a toothbrush or turning a doorknob can be difficult when rheumatoid arthritis and inflammation affect the hands.

Osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis are the most frequent kinds of arthritis. The ultimate goal of the design is to create a developed and modified sandwich maker that is simple to use and that individuals with arthritis are able to operate on their own, thereby giving them independence as they use the device.

By designing a product for users with arthritis, ergonomics has been considered its first priority. For instance, the details of this project include an ergonomic handle design, which would enable them to use the object swiftly and effectively. The handle bar is 30 mm in diameter, which will allow them to comfortably and safely open and close the lid of the sandwich maker. This product is smaller and lighter compared to other sandwich makers on the market. This is done on purpose due to the fact that a light-weight product is easier for a person with arthritis or hand dexterity to hold as opposed to a heavy-weight product; therefore, one sandwich would be made at a time. The user will be able to control their preferences in how they would like their sandwich toasted with a digital control panel that has three features: dark, light, and a bit more.

Not only the function and ergonomics of this project were considered, but the aesthetics of this project also took part; therefore, the sandwich maker has a simple and sleek design that has a modern look to it, which will suit most user’s kitchens. (2-minute pitch ) https://youtu.be/VjeJyZjnAMg
