After completing my second year of architecture, my passion for and investment in the architecture field is constantly growing. My evolving Ideas about what I thought architecture was and what I believe it should be, have fuelled my dedication to my work, inspiring a constant inquisition into new ideas and subjects. My previous experience from my studies of Building Design and Drafting has enabled me to push beyond, investing in detail and creating a deeper understanding of my work. I'm constantly looking to grow and am eager to continue my architecture journey.
The Cumberland Cultural Centre will offer the people of Richmond and wider Sydney a place to learn about the environmental and cultural heritage that is on the brink of extinction yet surrounds us all, The Cumberland Plain.
The Cumberland Plain has seen a transformation unlike any other. Stemming from its time as an ancient sea to pristine nature, Aboriginal inhabitants, European settlement and the contemporary modern day metropolis which threatens its very existence. Focusing on education and creativity, the Cumberland Cultural Centre aims to provide the people of Sydney with a place to come together and enjoy what may soon be lost. Visitors will be immersed in the experience of the plains' three core stages of evolution, its natural history, human history and its future.
Large portions of the site are devoted to native bush regeneration, prioritizing endangered flora and fauna. With only 6% of the original vegetation remaining, this step is of vital importance. A dedicated exhibition centre will focus on the natural history, human history, and future of the Cumberland Plain by encouraging local communities and diverse cultures to share and learn from one another. Although the focus is on preservation and education, it is also important to understand that the plains current population are also contributing to its history.
This will be a space for the people to use and enjoy, to showcase their talents, host classes and meetings, discuss local and broader issues. This will be a space not just to share and acknowledge the past, but to embrace the future.
