Adaptable Housing Solutions: Disruptive Design to Support Housing Affordability for Young Australians

Stax is a versatile, prefabricated modular wall system modelled on traditional timber frame panels and suitable for temporary and permanent self-installation. Structural, lightweight timber framing, protective conduit, plumbing, polystyrene acoustic and temperature insulation and soft wiring cables are contained within the pre-fitted internal panel compartment and secured with a durable, high-pressure laminate facade with interior wall, window and door modules. The project proposes that a low-cost, consumer-driven, modular wall system can shield young Australians from inter-generational disadvantage by evolving, expanding and elevating existing spaces. The prefabricated Stax system promotes productivity, privacy, functionality and adaptability through the division and creation of spaces, facilitating new modes of living. With a housing market, reluctant to evolve, Stax challenges the traditional construction sector and endeavours to move the housing industry beyond prohibitive models through design disruption, prioritising people, planet and profit as a united paradigm. The Stax system is built for adaptation and impact, evolving and expanding as it responds to consumer needs and designed to integrate within existing structures, processes and spaces. Stax empowers young Australians to actively make positive and sustained change to their living environments, with embedded design flexibility to meet their evolving needs without displacement or significant investment.
