Cost-Effective, Rapid Production of an Additively Manufactured Formula SAE Monocoque

This project aims to explore alternative manufacturing techniques for the production of the 2023 Formula SAE Vehicle, with a specific focus on the chassis construction. With the intent to construct a carbon fibre monocoque as opposed to a more traditional spaceframe seen on the 2017 Western Racing FSAE vehicle, or aluminium frame as used by the University of Technology Sydney, this report will cover the exploration of alternate plug construction for the use of carbon fibre moulding. Modern machinery allows a broad opportunity to explore material and construction options for the monocoque plug, whilst also implementing challenges in design and manufacturing. The primary focus of this report will be to explore the viability of a 3d printed plug in place of the more traditional foam or wooden moulds.
