Waste Brick Camellia

The project is a research center for the development of waste based bricks, also known as recycled bricks. With this innovative lab, waste is used as an opportunity to make new materials and in return change the history of Camellia towards a sustainable suburb. The site is situated on the top left corner of Camellia. It has access from the primary road James Ruse drive and the secondary roads, river road and river lane. I have proposed a direct connection through the site from James ruse drive as well as a service road to the parramatta river edge. The location of the site provokes connection with its context which is an advantage for servicing the program as well as urge visitors to use the site.

The program of the laboratory will start with the deposing of waste. The transportation involved in disposal is ships via the river, trucks from demolition sites and the public wastes. The idea is to encourage the community to participate in recycling unused or broken wastes at home. People will be able to enter into the drop off zone where they dispose their waste products. Then the materials will be sorted, grinded and given to researchers to develop a formula. Once the formula is perfected, it goes into the test production stage which is done manually by the researches where they mold the mixture. The main aim of the research will go towards having 100% recycled bricks, from various types of wastes.
