Novus is a modern sharps disposal unit designed to be used within the household setting and be integrated within a person’s bathroom. The device stores a single use sharps disposal cartridge within its body that once full of sharps, is taken to a local drop off location or pharmacy where it is then disposed of.
Due to Australia’s increasing number of diabetics and other self-medicating conditions, these products are becoming more common in household settings. With the increase of these devices also comes the increase of injuries related to them, with 41% of people incorrectly using these products. This misuse often leads to injuries with some cases being very life threatening in older users.
The Novus is designed to have smart integrated safety features with the core aim of reducing the amount of accidents that are related to the misuse of current sharps disposal units.
