Meditrolley is a simplistically but well designed medical cart intended for hospital use. The design focuses on adaptability, rigidity, longevity, cost and sustainability. The design is made from basic welded sheets of aluminium with deliberately few custom parts. The frame allows for the initial product to be adapted to a variety of roles depending on the client, i.e. specialised use instead of general use. The design is lightweight but sturdy thanks to its internal construction and aluminium frame, allowing both for higher carrying capacity due to weight savings but also ease of use inside ramped environments. Cost wise the trolley is easy to manufacture, requiring low tooling costs and manufacturing costs. The frame is made from standard lasercut sheet metal while the remaining components are injection moulded. These plastic parts are rigid/thick enough to made from even less tensile recycled materials, while the frame itself is all metal and fully recyclable.
The core innovations of the product are in the wide variety of small elements that make up the whole product. The frame allows for a lightweight but inexpensive and sturdy construction. The braking system with regards to the handles is rarely seen in medical trolleys, usually requiring each wheel to have its own separately operated brake. The internal retractable waste storage bin (hands free operation) is a feature rarely seen on competing products, which usually have an unprotected external liner-holder.
The outcome of the design is a product that improves on almost every aspect of existing medical trolleys on the market. Decreased weight at no durability penalty, recyclable materials, increased ergonomics and functionality, maximised storage capacity, decreased cost due to ease of manufacture, etc. Each element makes the product altogether a large improvement over existing products, all while being a cheaper, recyclable and longer lifespan design.
