Widevision VR 2021

This Document follows the development of Western Sydney University’s Virtual Widevision 2021. The aim is to make a Widevision event that can be attended by anyone during the Covid-19 pandemic. The project will look to use immersive technology to virtually transport users to the physical Widevision event as if they attended in person.

Firstly, research was undertaken to first justify the work that Widevision does for the University, and how exhibitions at Widevision should be presented. Then virtual reality was investigated to gauge a better understanding of what Algebuckina Design would be working with. After technology was chosen, physical and virtual products were assessed to see how suitable they would be for Widevision.

It was found that an Oculus Quest, running SteamVR home would be the best suited experience for the project. Investigation into the hardware required for VR showed that less than 2% of Australian households would have access to Widevision if it were only VR, so, it was proposed that a website and regular 3D game be created at a later date, using the VR assets, to supplement it and address inclusivity.

As the project moves forward. Students’ work will begin to be imported into a virtual reality environment designed and built from the ground up by Algebuckina Design according to the specifications provided by their client at Western Sydney University.
