I am an international student from Mexico at the WSU, currently living in Sydney, Australia. I wanted to study this Master in Architecture focused on Urban Transformation since I believe that by improving the way we live and move, we can get to connect better between the people and the environment. I like the design but also the construction part of the process.

BLOCK HOUSING - SOCIAL PROJECT

This housing project is located in the suburb of St, Marys of the City of Sydney, Australia. This proposal was developed based on the need for social housing, to promote land use and housing improvement in the community.

The design of the space accommodates families of different sizes through modular homes organized in the form of blocks to facilitate the distribution of units. The 5-level complex has 31 blocks of 1, 2 or 3 rooms installed one above the other around a central park that connects with all the blocks in the same meeting point and is used as a common area.

Each block is oriented to the North for the greatest capture of natural light and prominent winds. The location of the Blue Mountains was taken into account for the development of the balconies.

The central park and the balconies have vegetation and trees that function as a natural insulator of temperature and noise, also to promote phermaculture and biophilia (feeling of nature) within each part of the complex.

Along St Marys there are not many places with vegetation or parks which the intention is to promote the improvement of homes and their inhabitants with the Nature that surrounds them.

The materials used are mainly concrete for the manufacture of the panels of the blocks and wood for the interior of the floor. It is believed that with previous manufacture of the blocks it could generate an improvement in the construction and installation of the houses.

All rooms can change according to the needs of the family since the internal walls do not count as the main structure, thus giving the opportunity for future renovations.
